Untitled, 2017

Metal, Colored plexiglass, LED lighting

As one of the founders of the Conceptual Art Movement, Barry pioneered the use of words as an actual art medium.  Similar to how a painter uses paint or a sculptor uses marble, this historical artist has created his site-specific outdoor installation using words, color, and light all inspired by the beauty of the new campus.

Barry worked with founders Joanie and Scott Kriens to select the words that most represent their mission, desires and dreams for 1440 Multiversity and the many visitors.  The artist wanted his installation to welcome all the guests and residents passing though the site.  The elements of the overall installation, five illuminated words, hope to effect a change in people as they walk or drive past.  In the daytime the words appear to be nestled within the newly created landscape. However, at dust they begin to assert themselves and come alive when they glow in the dark of night.

The visitor experience will change throughout the day and night as will the surrounding environment through the colored light as it creates an aura.  The work will also change throughout the four seasons while remaining a timeless and universal artwork that embraces acceptance, dialogue, and the unexpected. We hope that visitors return to experience the artwork throughout the years because of the sense of adventure and discovery it provides.  This true thought provoking installation not only touches the mind but hopefully the heart and soul as well.
